Bio for David Ostrander, MD

A 1967 graduate of Cass Tech HS in Detroit (preceded there by Diana Ross of the Supremes), and a 1971 graduate of Yale University, Dr. Ostrander received his medical baptism in the wards of Bellevue Hospital and his MD degree from the New York University School of Medicine in 1975; he completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago in 1978. Leaving behind the memory of epic Chicago winters, he moved to San Diego for a cardiology fellowship at UCSD which he completed in 1980. After a brief stint on the faculty at UCSD he joined, in 1982, what is now the Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group.


During the past 37 years he has served in a number of administrative and leadership roles including membership on the SRS Board of Management, the Sharp Hospital Board of Trustees, the Sharp Healthcare Board of Directors and the Sharp Healthcare CQIC Board. He served as Chief of Staff at Memorial in 1998-99 and from 2001 to 2014 was Medical Director of the cardiac catheterization lab. He is a past President of the San Diego affiliate of the American Heart Association. DrO is an enthusiastic Episcopalian, an avid cyclist, and devoted preacher on the virtues of a therapeutic lifestyle. His love of books, boats and bikes are shared by his wife Liz and, except for the books, their Yorkshire Terrier, Charlie.
