Susan Donnell Scott, PhD, RN, CPPS, FAAN

Dr. Susan Scott is currently Director of Nursing - Professional Practice at University of Missouri Health System in Columbia, Missouri. She has more than 40 years of nursing experience in ambulatory pediatrics, Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatric/Neonatal Critical Care Transport, Legal Nurse Consulting, Quality Improvement and Patient Safety.  Her research interests include understanding the unique needs of clinicians in the aftermath of an unexpected clinical event.  Her research trajectory has defined the ‘second victim phenomenon allowing her to design and deploy the ‘first of its kind’ peer support network, the forYOU Team.  This evidence-based and holistic approach to providing institutional support networks helps promote the psychological safety of staff following adverse events. She is founder and director of MU Health Care’s forYOU Team which has become an international model for healthcare organizations seeking to deploy peer support structures. She has partnered with the Agency for Health Care Research and Quality, The Joint Commission, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and Medically Induced Trauma Support Services to ensure that comprehensive second victim supportive interventions are accessible to healthcare institutions and clinicians around the globeSue currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Medically Induced Trauma Support Services.
