          Brief Biography



Dr. Santore is a full-time practicing Orthopaedic Surgeon in San Diego, California, and is a Fellowship-trained (Harvard and AO Switzerland) subspecialist in Adult Reconstruction of the Hip and Knee. He is the Senior Partner of Orthopaedic Medical Group of San Diego, the Co-Founder and Medical Director of the San Diego Hip Preservation Center, a Voluntary Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UCSD and the Founder of Santore Consulting, Inc. He is the past Chief-of-Staff of the 1,200 Physicians of Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where he led the medical staff during the implementation of the electronic medical record, the opening of a new hospital and a successful Joint Commission full review.


After a Harvard residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital, he was selected to serve as Chief Resident in Orthopaedic Surgery at the MGH. He has become one of the world’s leading authorities on hip dysplasia and osteotomy surgery of the hip in adults. Active in multiple professional associations, he is a Past President of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the California Orthopaedic Association, the Western Orthopaedic Association, and the San Diego Surgical Society, and is a member of the Hip Society, the Knee Society, the International Hip Society, AAOS, the Orthopaedic Research Society, and the American College of Physician Executives.


He has been a Visiting Professor or speaker at Universities and academic meetings all over the world, including Switzerland, Russia, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Sweden, England, Japan, China, Micronesia, Australia, South Korea, India, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. He has served, or serves, as a Director or President of numerous professional societies and not-for-profit organizations and foundations, and as a consultant or Director of for-profit healthcare and insurance companies. In 2016, he was named to the board of Harvard Business School’s Avant-garde Health, and is on the corporate board of Game Ready, the world’s leading manufacturer of cold compression devices for post-injury and post-surgical recovery.


Among his interests are spending time with his beloved wife of 37 years, and his adult children and their families, golf, fly-fishing, philanthropy and travel. He is a member of the San Diego Yacht Club, the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, the Harvard Club of Boston, the Harvard Club of New York City and the UCSD Faculty Club.
