Marc R. Safran, M.D.


Dr. Marc Safran is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Chief of the Division of Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine Fellowship Director and Team Physician at Stanford University.  Dr. Safran is the Chief Orthopaedic Consultant for the WTA, as well as the NHL Players Association and NBA Players Association.  He is a Past President of ISHA - the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy and Hip Preservation - and the Immediate Past President of ISAKOS - the International Society for Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, as well as a past-president of the Society of Tennis Medicine and Science.


He has authored more than 150 book chapters, 220 papers, and given more than 1,000 presentations at local, regional, national and international conferences.  He edited, wrote or co-edited 10 books


Dr. Safran started his orthopaedic surgery career in San Diego, and was the medical director for the WTA Professional Tournament in LaCosta for 13 years.
