Dr. Adamson received his undergraduate degree at the University of Utah where he also completed his internship and residency in general surgery.  He went on to complete his fellowship in thoracic surgery at the University of California San Diego, and his cardiac transplantation fellowship at Stanford Medical Center.   In 1986, Dr. Adamson received his board certification in surgery followed by his certification in thoracic surgery in 1988. 


Dr. Adamson is the Surgical Director of the Cardiac Transplantation Program at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego. He has been Primary Investigator for the HeartMate III, Prevent Studies, was Co- Investigator for the REMATCH Study for the treatment of end-stage heart disease, and has been an investigator for many other studies though out the years.   


Dr. Adamson is a member of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, Society of Thoracic Surgeons and San Diego County Medical Society.


Noteworthy projects include left ventricular assist device, minimally invasive heart surgery, total artificial heart, endostent repair for abdominal aortic and thoracic aneurysm, Trans apical and trans femoral aortic valve replacement and heart transplantation.


Dr. Adamson has published numerous scientific papers and is a very successful sought after speaker both nationally and internationally.  He is also a recognized expert in the field of left ventricular assist device and instructs worldwide on the implantation and management of the device.
