SHC HRO Training for Physicians

This is a 10 module series that introduces key concepts of the high-reliability organization (HRO) initiative under taken by Sharp HealthCare.  These modules prepare physicians to participate in a live workshop that teaches HRO skills.  Sharp HealthCare is committed to achieving zero defects and zero harm to employees, physicians, patients and their families.

Target audience:  Sharp-affiliated physicians (all others should complete modules via Learning Center)

Following the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  11. Describe the purpose and meaning of the acronym STAR
  12. Describe applying STAR
  13. Explain the value and intent of cross-monitoring
  14. Cite two things you will do when you are cross-monitored by a team member
  15. Describe common communication failures and skills to communicate clearly
  16. Describe Closed Loop Communication
  17. Describe SBAR
  18. Explain the purpose and benefit of Critical Thinking
  19. Describe “Know Why and Comply”
  20. Explain when to use a Questioning Attitude
  21. Cite the difference between Validating and Verifying
  22. Discuss why speaking up is important to safety and reliability
  23. Cite three actions you can take to make it safe for others to speak up
  24. Name two skills that can be used to speak up for a safety concern
  25. Describe the purpose and benefits of Reliability Huddles and Debriefs
  26. Recognize how and where to report problems and issues
  27. Describe the benefits of receiving and giving thoughtful feedback
  28. Explain the purpose of Standard Work
  29. Identify Eight Wastes
  30. Explain A3 Problem Solving
