SHARP CME MISSION

The mission of Sharp HealthCare Continuing Medical Education (CME) is to provide needs-based and clinically relevant educational activities and professional development opportunities to physicians and other health professionals in order to improve patient care and clinical outcomes in the San Diego Community.

SHARP CME DEFINITIONS

AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ - AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ represents that the physician has participated in an educational activity, and completed all requirements for such an activity and is the most accepted form of CME credit for physicians and is also the basis for receiving the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award.

CME activities with MOC Part II (Lifelong Learning) credit – CME activities that are relevant to learners certified by the specific board(s) and have met the specific board requirements within the CME activity.  Please Note: ABIM MOC Part II credit is only offered for larger conferences focused on Internal Medicine.  The CME Team can assist with meeting these additional requirements. 

Performance Improvement CME (PI CME) credits – A CME activity structured as a three-stage process by which a physician or group of physicians learn about specific performance measures. 20 CME credits. May qualify for MOC Part IV (Performance Improvement). 

MOC Part IV (Performance Improvement) credit – Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part IV is a board certification requirement for physicians. It is designed to assess and improve the quality of patient care and patient outcomes.

Sharp HealthCare has been reviewed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) and awarded Accreditation with Commendation for 6 years as a provider of continuing medical education (CME) for physicians.  Accreditation in the ACCME System seeks to assure the medical community and the public that Sharp HealthCare delivers education that is relevant to clinicians' needs, evidence-based, evaluated for its effectiveness, and independent of commercial influence.  Sharp HealthCare is accredited through November 2028.

Sharp HealthCare is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  Currently Sharp HealthCare is accredited through June 2024.

In 2016 the American Board of Medical Specialties Portfolio Program^(TM) (ABMS Portfolio Program) granted Sharp HealthCare Program Sponsor status, allowing us to review and approve quality and safety activities for continuing certification (MOC) credit from an ABMS Member Board or from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
