SRS Multispecialty Desert Conference 2023

The 25th SRS Multispecialty Desert Conference is designed to bring the entire medical group together to learn and grow. This year's topics discuss updates in ANA, lab services, antibiotic uses, asthma, digital health, burnout, lifestyle medicine, cardio/lipids update, orthopedic medicine, substance abuse, and diabetes. 

1. Review guidelines for lipid lowering in primary prevention and create a lipid lowering plan for patients that goes beyond traditional statin therapy
2. Review common causes of false positive and false negative UDS results and how lab panels are generated and billed
3. Review the outpatient treatment recommendations for community-acquired pneumonia, urinary tract infections, and management of skin and soft tissue infections
4. Discuss the process of FDA drug indications, that studies to use off label utilization of different dosing/durations is based on published evidence, the SRS Pediatric Otitis Guideline for antibiotic selection/duration of therapy and microbiologic basis for antibiotic selection in pediatric urinary tract infection.
5. Review evidence and recommendations in the diagnosis and management of patients with chronic asthma and the new ATS/ERS pulmonary function test interpretation guidelines
6. Review techniques of generative AI or telehealth to use mobile digital health tools to improve clinical access, to increase patient satisfaction, and to reduce clinician burnout
7. Recognize burnout signs and symptoms and identify strategies of support
8. Identify and develop effective lifestyle medicine prescriptions that occur at 10 days, 1 year, and 5 years throughout a patient’s health journey starting with effective cardiometabolic health behavior changes
9. Identify how Lifestyle Medicine is being taught and practiced at SRS, employ LM conversations in day-to-day practice, and connect ourselves and our patients with helpful resources.
10. Review rheumatic diseases associated with ANA and correct timing of ordering the test
11. Review high-level evidence in primary care situations such as UTIs, muscle ache due to statins, and allergic rhinitis.
12. Describe the most common symptoms of rotator cuff tendinopathy, the common entrapment neuropathies seen at the elbow joint, the importance of recognizing an acute hand/finger injury that needs surgical treatment.
13. Identify targeted interventions to support adolescent mental health in a primary care setting and post-pandemic pediatric mental health trends and
14. Review pathophysiology of GLP-1 analogs, SGLT-2 Inhibitors, treatment options based on the patient’s comprehensive evaluation, the patient’s glycemic goals and needs and to perform a diabetic comprehensive evaluation.
15. Review key finding of 2022/23 research relevant to clinical applications within family medicine.
